Classification Descriptions

These contestants are just starting their roping career or have been away from roping for a long period of time. They are in the early stages of developing fundamental roping skills, focusing on learning the basics and gaining experience.

These contestants are improving their fundamentals, including horsemanship and rope handling skills. They require more time to set up and complete a run. These contestants are junior high or high school rodeo caliber who have competed at jackpots and/or open rodeos with limited success.

Contestants at this level demonstrate consistent rope handling and riding skills. They are placing at amateur rodeos, jackpots, college rodeos, and are competitive in their respective circuits, including state-level high school finalists.

These contestants are competitive at both amateur and open levels. They exhibit strong horsemanship and roping skills. They have made short rounds, placed in open averages, or have qualified for the equivalent of College or Amateur Finals. Capable of making fast runs but they lack the consistency of higher-level ropers.

These contestants have advanced roping and horsemanship abilities, enabling them to control their horse’s timing and reduce breakout errors. These contestants have the talent and skill to be WPRA Circuit Finals contestants and top Amateur Finalists, demonstrating strong consistency and speed.

Contestants at this level are current and former NFBR (National Finals Breakaway Roping) qualifiers and rank within the top 50 of the World Standings over the previous three years. These ropers are at the top of the game.
